Common questions
How does Split the Bills work?
You photograph the receipt, AI reads every line with its price, and you tick off who had what. The app calculates exactly what each person owes, including tips and fees.
Is it free?
Yes. Split the Bills is free to use. Donations are voluntary and nothing is locked behind payment.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no account, no login and no email address. Open the page and start.
Can I use it abroad?
Yes. The scanner reads receipts in most languages, translates the lines into your language and converts the amounts to the currency you choose.
Which languages are supported?
Fifteen interface languages, including English, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Polish, Turkish, Chinese and Japanese.
How are tips split?
You choose: evenly between everyone at the table, or proportionally based on how much each person's own items cost.
What is the Swish feature?
In Sweden the app can generate a Swish QR code per person, pre-filled with the recipient's number, the exact amount and a message. Split the Bills does not process the payment itself.
Can I install it?
Yes. It is a progressive web app — open it on your phone and choose Add to Home Screen to get an app icon without an app store.
